About 106 reformed youths in Moroto district are set to benefit from
grants to launch their business initiatives, in a bid to strengthen their
economic resilience.
The grants
to be handed over to beneficiaries on Wednesday this week by Karamoja herders
of the horn-formerly known as Karamoja Development Forum will target identified
three youth groups identified from three sub-counties.
The groups
hail from Rupa sub-county comprising 36 members, Katikekile with 35 members and
Lotisan with 35 members.
According to
a statement, the Rupa and Lotisan groups have chosen to undertake livestock
trade while the Katikekile group have chosen to focus on cereal banking as
their business venture.
According to
Karamoja herders of the horn, the initiatives is being undertaken under the program
“strengthening innovative approaches to promote resilience of agro-
pastoralists in East Africa-phase two in collaboration with Welt hunger hilfe
and funding support from BMZ.
The program
will help to assess the relationship between the economic empowerment of
reformed youth and peace building, particularly in understanding whether
economic interventions can contribute to sustainable peace in Karamoja
sub-region.
