A 13 year old girl has
challenged parents to desist from segregating the girl child and the boy child
since they are equally created by God.
During the
girls’ international day celebration held at Nadunget town council Moroto
district on Saturday, Elizabeth Akello a primary 6 pupil of Acherer primary
school questioned parents why they segregate children basing on their gender
yet they are all gifts from the creator -which calls for equal rights and
opportunities for both the boy and girl child.
Akello added
that most girls are raped and defiled while on long journeys fetching water,
firewood and while in the jungles burning charcoal, something she says shutters
their life dreams since most of them end up with unwanted pregnancies or else
forced marriages as the boys enjoy their education rights.
She noted
that both boys and girls are equally important to the world for a better future
generation since boys alone can’t teach moral behaviors to communities without
mothers who are currently segregated.
16 year old
Josephine Lokol a P7 pupil at Nadunget
primary school, begged parents to give children education because it can expose
them to other important things like friends, jobs and technology that can help
them be successful in life.
The event
was organized by Save the children-a civil society organization under the theme
“international day of the girl child and climate change.”
