Over 2000 elders in Kotido district
have successfully been verified and are set to be incorporated to start
benefiting from the Uganda Social Assistance
Grants for Empowerment-SAGE program.
Following a successive vetting by the
Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social development of elders in Kotido in March
this year, some elders had their particulars wrongly entered in their national
id’s, making them fail to benefit from the SAGE program.
The elders who claimed to be 80 claimed
National Identification Registration Authority-NIRA officials deployed to
capture their information wrongly entered their credentials which made
ineligible beneficiaries.
Brian Etuko, Kotido Community based
Services head of department however says the vetting exercise was a success,
where 2113 in Kotido district will be enrolled to start benefiting from the
SAGE program.
According to Etuko, the Uganda
Registration Services Bureau-URSB had already completed their part and they are
only waiting for NIRA to issue documentations to the elders.
