At least 31 people died under different circumstances during the end
of year and New Year celebrations across the country.
Giving a
report on the general security situation of the country on Tuesday, police
spokesperson, Fred Enanga said between December, 31 and January, 2, a total of
55 incidents were reported to police resulting into the death of 31 persons,
arrest of 27 suspects and 17 victims got injured.
According to
Enanga, Rwenzori West with seven cases took the lead followed by North Kyoga,
Aswa West, Kampala Metropolitan North, Aswa East and Greater Masaka
respectively.
Out of the
31 lives lost, five victims were lynched on suspicion of theft, six were hacked/stabbed to
death, four committed suicide, two were suspected to have been poisoned to
death, two perished in fire outbreak, two
were hit using a blunt object, two died as a result of aggravated domestic
violence, two drowned, two died due to rash and neglect acts, one victim was
shot dead and one victim was strangled to death
