Joint security forces of
UPDF and police have registered huge gains over the weekend as they recovered a
total of 31 guns in a cordon and search operation in Lokeriaut kraal, Nadunget
sub-county in Moroto district.
The third division
commander Brig.Gen.Joseph Balikudembe says the operation conducted in the dawn
of Saturday was intelligence based.
Balikudembe
says the exercise saw 129 suspects arrested, with 25 of them admitting to
owning guns.
According to
the division commander, 751 loose ammunitions were also recovered together with
32 magazines and one semi-automatic rifle.
The
commander also intimated that the Lokeriaut kraal belongs to Turkana herders
and majority of those apprehended are Turkana from neighbouring Kenya.

This new
development follows a recent diplomatic move which saw Uganda hand over about
six Turkana herders who were arrested with guns-to the Kenyan side.
