At
least 423 students have attained certificates from Napak vocational skills hub,
a presidential initiative that aims at skilling the youths so as to improve
their income.
The team underwent a
six months course training that included hair dressing, carpentry, to
tailoring, shoe making, building and bakery after their admission last October.
The semester ended on
April 17, 2024 with a colourful pass-out ceremony held at the Karamoja regional
hub located in Napak district, some 45 kilometres from Moroto, along Soroti
road.
Presiding over the
ceremony, the newly appointed minister for Karamoja affairs Peter Lokeris
challenged the youths to work hard in the sub region.
He further told them
that the talent they have now achieved is already a job for life.
Meanwhile, the state
house controller Jane Barikye told the graduates that the certificates attained
have been legalized by the directorate of industrial training-DIT.
She says the initiative
will reduce the growing numbers of unemployment between the educated and
non-educated in the country.
Barikye appealed to the
district local governments to ask development partner/contractors s to absorb
the youths.
On the other hand, John
Paul Kodet the district chairperson Napak says the visible work done by the
youths shows learning has been ongoing in the hub.
He asked the youths not
to render the skills acquired useless but make use of them to improve their
lives and their families.
