Tensions still remain high
between the Sabiny and Pokot in Amudat district, following conflict between the
two communities.
This has
been confirmed by the commandant of the anti-stock theft unit, Elias Kasirabo,
saying the situation needs patience.
Kasirabo
however notes that as security forces, they will continue to facilitate
dialogues to de-escalate the tension.
On the other
hand, Francis Chemusto, the regional police commander for Mount Moroto, says
security has decided to continue holding reconciliation meetings to restore
harmony between the Sabiny and Pokot.
Last week, Amudat district leadership ordered
Sabiny settlers to leave and prohibited the natives from Kween from conducting
any business transactions within the district.
The expulsion of the Sabiny came in
retaliation of a similar resolution passed by Kween leadership ordering Pokot
pastoralists to vacate Kween.
Amudat residents while in a
meeting yesterday have refused the return of the
recently expelled Sabiny individuals.
They
gathered under and around a traditional tree in Karita to voice their
grievances.
