Another casual labourer working with Ever
grand resource company limited has been killed in yet another tragic incident
that has hit the mining company.
The deceased has been
identified as John Tibita, a resident of Cheptakol village, Lokaales sub-
county in Amudat district.
This is the second incident
in less than three days, following the death of Baker Magomu who was cut by a
conveyor machine, killing him instantly.
The trend has forced police
authorities to hold a crisis meeting with the management of Ever grand resource
company limited, where activities of the gold mining company have been
suspended for at least ten days.
According to police, the
suspension is to allow putting in place measures to guarantee safety of
workers.
Police spokesperson for
Karamoja Mike Longole says the deceased John Tibita met his fate after a lift
he was using for coming out of the tunnel was hit by a falling stone, forcing
him to fall 50 meters down the tunnel.
Longole adds that the
deceased was retrieved while unconscious and rushed to Karita health center
four but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incidents expose the lack
of safety measures in place by various mining companies in Karamoja, posing a
threat to the lives of their workers.
