Security officials in
Karenga district have received a gun, voluntarily handed over by warriors
identified as Lokii James and Lokubal Denis.
Karamoja
regional police spokesperson Mike Longole says the gun was handed over with one
round of ammunition by Lokii and Lokubal, all residents of Lomodoch village,
Sangar sub-county in Karenga district.
According to
Longole, the illegal gun was received by the anti-stock theft unit zonal
commander in Karenga, DPC Karenga and the Diso.
There has
been a positive response by some warriors to voluntarily hand over guns to
authorities and this has been attributed to the peaceful approach and
continuous sensitization of the masses.
Longole says
the warriors are being enticed by the
presidential amnesty and package, adding that previously, the raiders were
scared of being arrested if they attempted to hand over illegal guns in their
possession to security officials.
