The regional police
commander for Mt.Moroto region, Assistant Commissioner of Police Francis
Chemusto has cautioned boda boda riders against being used by criminals to
commit crime.
While
speaking at a meeting with the riders at Mt.Moroto regional police headquarters
yesterday, ACP Chemusto noted that boda boda have been identified as crime
enablers in the region.
He says boda
bodas knowingly or unknowingly transport raiders and even taking food to them
in their hideouts, adding that they also transport illicit waragi which is a
driving factor for raiding.
The RPC
cited the recent killing of a teacher of Atedeoi primary school in Moroto,
saying the killers were carried by a boda boda.
Chemusto
however noted that the boda riders are also being targeted by criminals, citing
an incident in which a boda boda rider was stabbed in Amudat district recently
and his motorbike taken but later recovered by police in Nakapiripirit.
He
encouraged them to have associations where all boda bodas are registered for
easy tracking.
The meeting
was organized by the department of traffic and road safety to address emerging
boda boda security challenges in the region.
