Delays in delivering drugs
at Sidok health center 3, Sidok Sub County in Kaabong district has forced
patients to travel for over 28 KMs to access essential drugs.
Last month,
that there was a drug stock out at the facility and the patients that normally
come from the sub counties of Kakamar, Loyoro and Sidok, were left with no
option but to travel 28 Kilometers to Kaabong town to buy the drugs.
According to
the health center in charge Kerine Nakong
, they received a consignment at the beginning April of this year but it
only lasted for 2 months, forcing the facility to operate without drugs for
close to 3 months, only to be rescued with a consignment on the 28th
of August.
Nakong says
the delays in deliveries by the National Medical Stores-NMS makes management of
diseases difficult, as some of the patients end up giving up on accessing the
drugs because of the distance and costs incurred.
She expressed
fear that the trend might continue since the consignment delivered recently was
for only one cycle.
Nakong appealed
for the intervention of leaders to ensure the supply chain is consistent to
improve health service delivery.
