The generating growth opportunities and productivity for women entrepreneurs-GROW
project has been launched in Karamoja, with high hopes of improving business
ventures of women in the sub-region.
The launch
was presided over by the state minister for labour, employment and industrial relations,
Esther Davinia Anyakun, held at Hotel Africana in Moroto today.
Minister
Anyakun noted that every Uganda woman doing business in the region is liable to
benefit from the GROW project irrespective of their place of origin.
She
expressed optimism that the project will not only boost the beneficiaries’ businesses,
but also will promote gender equality and the economic empowerment of women in
the sub-region and the country at large.
The minister
pledged commitment and partnership with the district leadership in the
sub-region so that the project meets its intended goal.
The GROW
project is a five-year project being funded by the World bank at a tune of 217
million dollars, an equivalent of about 7.5trillion shillings and it is a
non-extendable grant launched last year in Soroti city, running up to the end
of 2027.
The project
targets 60,000 businesses countrywide, with 280,000 women set to benefit.
The launch
was attended by 500 beneficent participants and other dignitaries including the
state minister for ethics and integrity, Rose Lilly Akello and MPs from the
region.
