Government priorities the transformation of Karamoja.

The vice President Jessica Alupo, has said government is committed to serving the people of Karamoja, noting that the first priority is to ensure the sub region achieves in the movement transformation agenda.

Alupo pointed out that government’s main purpose is to ensure security, safety and the prosperity of the Karimojong.

She says government has prioritized to deliver what is meant for the sub region, adding that it is only Karamoja that features in the NRM 10-point program.

The vice president was speaking as a chief guest on Friday during the ground breaking ceremony for Karamoja peace and Technology University, a future catholic founded institution that will have its construction commence soon in Losilang parish, Kotido municipality.

Representing the President Museveni who is also the selected chancellor of the University, Alupo said the government will continue with the implementation of the program of transforming the entire country specifically Karamoja.

Alupo hailed the catholic lawyers association for coming with an idea to establish the peace and technology university, the first of its kind in the country, saying the intervention is timely for Karamoja where peace has been elusive for decades.

The district chairperson Kaabong Meri Gino defined the ceremony as a memorable day for Karamoja and he labeled the institution as a God sent that will unstitch the issues of inaccessibility of education.

On the other hand, the chairperson Catholic lawyers association Severino Twinobusingye applauded government for the efforts, saying the move by government to include the University in its 2024/25 national budget is a wonderful move.

He says the University will be used as a shock absorber to reduce the many challenges Karamoja sub region faces including the chronic insecurity, research, education health and development.
