A high level security
meeting was today held at Hotel Africana Moroto between delegations from Uganda
and Kenya.
High on the
agenda was to operationalize the memorandum of understanding signed by
President Yoweri Museveni and the former president of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta in
2019 in Naitakwae, Moroto district.
The minister
for security Gen.Jim Muhwezi who headed the Ugandan delegation says the meeting
was targeted at fostering harmonious co-existence between the Ugandan and
Kenyan communities living along the border as they share resources.
Muhwezi also
recognized the challenges being faced by the two communities but noted that
they should always follow the law.
On the other
hand, Rebecca Miano who led the Kenyan delegation reiterated on the cordial
relations between Uganda and Kenya and sharing of resources along the border by
communities.
Miano
however noted that there are emerging security concerns that have arisen as the
two communities share resources.
She also
pointed out that her delegation was here to also handle the issue of Kenyans
especially the Turkana herders jailed in Ugandan prisons.
The meeting

still consulting with their respective governments on some contentious issues.
