Police in Moroto have arrested the in charge of the popular DMO’s
clinic- a health centre II for stealing assorted drugs of unknown value and a
solar battery for the maternity ward.
They have identified the suspect as Christine Kongai who has over
the years served as the in charge of the facility.
The DMO-District Medical Officer clinic was established in the late
60’s before the establishment of Moroto Municipality in 1974 when it took over
the facility before retaining its quasi name to date.
However, Karamoja regional police spokesperson Mike Longole who
confirmed the incident says the items were stolen on Sunday as most believers
settled in their respective churches.
He further says the police acting on a tip of from concerned residents
visited the scene only to ascertain that the stores where drugs were kept there
wasn’t forced entry.
It has also been established that Kongai had
been selling fortified foods for malnourished children, which the police have
confirmed saying seven boxes are also missing from the health facility stores.
Longole also says on the fateful day, the suspect after sensing
danger begged the gate keeper Paul Mike Lokawa to tell the police that the
items went missing in their absence, an appeal he rejected.
The police have preferred a charge of theft of
drugs as investigations continue, according to Longole.
