Kapeeta councilor five
representative Lokech Isaiah has emphasized the need of a police outpost in the
area, citing the long distance to Kacheri Town council and Kotido CPS when
reporting cases.
Lokech says
they previously had an outpost stationed in Kokoria but was withdrawn due to
heightened insecurity, adding that the current outpost in the sub county is an
ASTU outpost that doesn’t handle criminal related cases.
According to
Lokech, the distance from Kapeeta to the nearest police station has discouraged
victims of cases like theft, GBV and assault from reporting.

Kotido DPC
Robert Kacumu the Kotido DPC in response advised that sub counties that are in
need of drawing police services closer to them should put it in documentation
as creation of police stations are only approved by the headquarters.
Kacumu
however noted that an outpost can be created in an area depending on the urgent
need but the major factor that frustrates its existence is the lack of
infrastructure in the sub county.
