A chapatti maker is in police custody at the Lorengedwat Sub County
police post in Nabilatuk district as he tried to escape justice after
suffocating and strangling his girlfriend to death in Nakapiripirit district.
The incident happened on Monday afternoon at Namalu trading centre,
Namalu Sub County in Nakapiripirit district.
The suspect has been identified as one, “Mutwalibi” alias “Mutwalo”
a resident of the same address.
However, information was not readily available as to why the
chapatti man killed Rose Gwaga 20 who had just spent four months in the
relationship.
The deceased was working at a nearby restaurant, few metres from
the killer’s chapatti making workplace.
When contacted Karamoja police spokesperson Mike Longole, confirmed
the incident describing it as unfortunate.
Longole says the deceased went for the festive season and when she
returned at the beginning of January, she went to stay with her Mutwalib in a
rented room located a few metres from the trading centre.
Quoting some of the neighbours, Longole noted that the deceased has
always been indoors with little or no communication with the neighbours and was
last seen on the morning of Monday.
On the fateful day, Mutwalib reportedly returned home where he
spent a lot of time in his room, prompting his colleague only identified as
Rasta to go to his place to tell him to come and fry the already steamed beans
at around 5.00pm.
After repeated calls with no answer, Rasta pushed the door, only to
see the girl dead, where he raised an alarm that attracted people at the
trading centre.
Longole says the suspect was arrested at Lorengedwat trading centre
on Tuesday 2024 while trying to escape via Moroto to a yet to be disclosed
destination.
