The anti-corruption court
has ordered the lawyer representing Karamoja affairs minister, Mary Goretti
Kitutu to produce her in court to answer charges in relation to causing
financial loss of 1.5billion shillings.
Senior
principal grade one magistrate Abert Asiimwe has directed lawyer Jude Byamukama
to ensure that Kitutu appears in court to plead to the charges.
Asiimwe says
Byamukama should take all the necessary steps and compel his client to honour
the court directives.
In his
ruling yesterday, Asiimwe ordered Byamukama to present Kitutu at the next
courts sitting on March 19th, 2024.
The
directives and summons were issued after Byamukama informed court that Kitutu
is sick.
On February
19th, 2024, Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga dismissed Kitutu’s application
in which she had sought to have the trial blocked on grounds that the charges
arose from the same facts.
Kajuga in
her ruling said there is no connection between the act that constitute the
transactions in the alleged diversion of iron sheets and peace building activities.
