Kotido district councilors
have denounced the recent appointment of the new interim Karamoja cultural
leader, the 81-year-old papa Angasuban, Peter Adei.
The
denouncement was pronounced during a council meeting recently, with the
councilors distancing themselves from the appointment saying it’s unlawful.
Papa Adei
was appointed in October this year by representatives of the elder’s council,
with two representatives from each district in the region.
However, his
appointment has since faced criticism from a section of leaders from the
various districts of Karamoja, who say they were not consulted about the
development.
Emmanuel
Lodio the Kotido district speaker during the council meeting said the election
was unlawful, claiming the different district councils are supposed to sit,
propose and approve the appointment, before it is forwarded to the regional
council for final approval.
