Jie elders under their
umbrella Kotido District Cultural Elders Council-KODECCO together with KAPEPs
ministries and the Greater Glory Mission Karamoja have today the 25th
January handed over to the office of the RDC a proposal to meet President
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
In the
proposal, the elders have come up with a 5 pillar intervention to realize
peace, justice and development in the region.
The
elders have also stressed for the need for establishment and construction of 2
worship temples at Korwakol and Lodiny, availing 2 mini buses and 4 motorcycles
for transportation of elders during the dialogues and tractors to support food
production among others.
The
elders also propose that to improve the level of school enrolment and
performance in Karamoja, government avails the council with funds to facilitate
the education committee in mobilization of the parents to enroll the school
going age children in school.
They have
also come up with a masterplan to uproot hunger in Karamoja where under the 14
clans of the Jie they would cultivate 50 acres of cassava, 50 acres of maize,
50 acres of sorghum 25 acres of cashew nuts and 25 acres of fast growing fruits
like mangoes, oranges as well as other indigenous fruits.
Speaking
to our reporter shortly after handing over the proposal to the RDC Akore John
Bosco the secretary Kotido Elders council said the 14 clan heads in
consultation came up with 5 interventions that include peace prayer dialogues,
internal and cross border dialogue meetings, food production, education and
revival and strengthening the traditional administrative cultural institutions
of the elder’s council.
Akore
believes that if the proposal is taken up, the region would realize peace and
development.
