Kotido district health workers
have resolved to resume their duties after laying down their tools for nearly
four weeks over unpaid salary arrears.
The medics
who claimed government had not paid their salaries for over 4 months, laid down
their tools on 12th December 2023, only attending to the maternity
ward as well as emergency cases.
Frederick
Leperes, a representative of the medics says following a meeting held on
Thursday between the district authorities and their representatives, it was
agreed that they would receive their salaries starting 15th of
January 2024 since the Deputy CAO is at the ministry addressing their plight.
He adds that
it was also agreed that a general meeting be held on the 09th
January at the hospital and all the issues raised in the said meeting be
addressed by the authorities within 14 days.
Leperes has
consequently appealed to the medics to return to their duty station as they
look forward to the commitment from the district authorities.
