Local leaders in Longaroe
sub county Kotido district are demanding for a police post to check on the high
level of crime in the area.
The demand
was presented to the security officials during an open field court martial at
Longaroe Sub County presided over by Colonel Francis Kateraho the UPDF 3rd
division court martial chairman.
During the
court session, two civilians Modo Apakori and Lomoru Lopukan were each
sentenced to 60 years in jail for killing the former LC3 chairperson Longaroe.
Nuria Ashraf
Teko Kotido district vice chairperson while speaking shortly after the court
session said Longaroe needs a police station to handle criminal cases,
explaining that the entire sub county does not have a police post while a
military detach is quite far from the trading center.
Nuria who
also doubles as the district woman councilor representing Rengen Sub County
further observed that there are a number of sub counties in the district
without either a police post or a military detach letting criminality to thrive
in communities.

Meanwhile,
Angura Chilla the LC1 chairperson Nakwaalet village in Longaroe Sub County says
residents have lost lives and valuable items to the criminals terrorizing the
area.
It should
however be noted that in 2022 the Uganda police force started the process of
merging a number of its stations and posts with the end goal of countering what
it calls threats on its officers.
