Police in Moroto have arrested a man for
failure to remit funds he acquired under government Emyooga program, intended
to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.
The RDC Moroto, George
William Wopuwa has confirmed the arrest of John Bosco Otyang, saying he is a
member of the Carpenter Sacco Moroto municipal council.
According to the RDC, the
suspect Otyang borrowed a sum of 6.3 million shillings in April 2022 but up to date,
he has only remitted one million shillings.
Wopuwa wondered how Otyang
is failing to remit the money yet he has booming business as well as animals at
his disposal.
He noted that the suspect is
being detained at Moroto central police station, adding that his arrest is to
ensure he clears the loan and to also serve as an example to other would be
defaulters.
The RDC cautioned that
Emyooga funds are not free monies from government but rather a revolving fund
that should be paid in order to benefit all the members of a particular Sacco.
