The micro finance service centre
– MSC has designed a socio-economic initiative aimed at uplifting the
conditions of the reformed warriors across Karamoja.
The involvement is line with the Presidential
initiative for disarmament, a comprehensive peace initiative and a financial
inclusion for the youths who surrender arms to relevant authorities.
Speaking at a joint meeting for the youths held at
Kamusalaba grazing ground in Nabilatuk district on Saturday July 08, 2023, the
chairperson Board of Directors MSC Dr. Emmanuel Kiiza Aliba said the
intervention signifies working towards peace in Karamoja.
The meeting attracted the Pokot from Amudat,
Matheniko-Moroto including the Pian from Nabilatuk and Bokora from Napak
districts.
Dr.Kiiza says they have designed a special program for
the reformed warriors to have money in their pockets all the time, but warned
that the money is not for free.
He adds that government has extended money to the
Karimojong to do business, noting that those who want to do business should get
prepared.
On the other hand, the Karamoja MSC zonal manager
Lydia Nambuya says the institution is focusing on how to build capacities for
those handing over arms to the forces.
