The minister of state for works, Musa Ecweru has directed for the
immediate works between Nadunget and Moroto town stretch, which is in a very
poor state.
Ecweru made
the directive yesterday as he commissioned the Moroto construction materials laboratory,
which has been erected along Nakapiripirit road in Nawanatau, Loputuk
sub-county adjacent to Gulu university-Moroto campus.
The minister
apologised for the poor workmanship by the contractor, noting that the state of
the road in that stretch is a manifestation of showdy work.
He added
that the contractor could have used low quality construction materials, but
noted that with the materials laboratory in place, it will help to address such
challenges.
The tough
talking Ecweru assured the people of Karamoja that the ministry of works and
transport will summon officials from Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA over
the matter and he promised a remedy.
The state of
the Moroto-Soroti road constructed less than ten years ago is appalling, with
several deaths and injuries recorded along the Nadunget-Moroto stretch, which
has developed huge potholes.
