The Forum for Democratic
Change chairperson for Moroto district Michael Aurumo has urged the electoral
commission to consider reducing the nomination fees for political actors.
Aurumo made
the call during a consultative meeting on constitutional and political reforms
held yesterday at Baglea hotel in Moroto town.
Aurumo says
nomination fees just intend to prove commitment from the political aspirants
therefore need to think of little pay other than being exorbitant.
According to
Aurumo exclusive of other political positions, members of parliament and
presidential aspirants should pay at least between 200.000 and maximum of
500.000 as nomination fee.
He adds that
the government should consider putting people in the center of politics other
than enacting laws that only favor particular aspirants.

Speaking during
the consultative meeting, electorates called upon government reinstate term
limits in the constitution.
Mark Aol Musoka
the former chairperson Moroto district said reinstating term limits will save
the country from selfish people who assume to be the only leaders for this
country.
He adds that
term limits should not be limited to only the office of presidency but to other
political offices.
Moses Nyeko
Moroto municipality parliamentary aspirant in 2021, said the removal of term
limit exposed Ugandans to all sorts of vulnerability.
Nyeko says many
incompetent leaders have been maintained in offices because of their money yet
the country has lost development programs within their sight.
The
consultative meeting was organized by Riamiriam civil society network with
support from Uganda national NGO forum and forum for women in democracy.
