The media fraternity in Karamoja have been asked to up skill their
reporting in the sub region, With an army of challenges in Karamoja, such as
climate change, hunger, illnesses, cattle thefts a disadvantaged health and
Education system.
While speaking during a media engagement organized by Equal
Opportunities Commission -EOC yesterday at Waga lounge in Moroto town, Moroto
RDC George William Wopuwa stressed the need for journalists to observe the
issues affecting the local communities in Karamoja.
Wopuwa acknowledged the huge gap between the media and the
leadership but noted that it is a two way fold where the journalists should
engage the leaders and same to the latter because these two entities need to
work together for a common cause.
He asked the media to be objective by avoiding biasness while
reporting issues of the region.
Suwed Munirah, Ateker FM Moroto says the bureaucracy in the
government methodology of handling programs is delaying development.
She adds that funds from the central government are released late
saying before local governments attend to people demands the financial year has
ended.
Godfrey Eyoku, journalist working for Uganda Radio Network urges
leaders to work with the media to uplift lives in Karamoja.
He says in most cases the media seeks support from the leaders but
to his dismay most these people are very negative to even issue that develop
the region.
Meanwhile, The head of communications at the EOC Francis Muziransa
urged journalists to report issues about Karamoja the way they are seen back
home.
