Moroto district boda boda
leadership has commenced an operation against non-registered members to ensure
sanity in their work.
In an
operation that has entered day two, over 79 motorcycles have been apprehended
and owners forced to pay UGX 20000 in order to own identification cards to
avoid other inconveniences as advised by the security operatives in the
district.
According to
Mohamed Lokidoro-the chairperson Moroto district boda boda association, the
operation and identification is to aid boda boda riders during security
operations ,which have left some of their colleagues arrested and pinned for
assisting or taking part in crimes like raiding, theft, kidnapping among
others.
Lokidoro
adds that as other boda boda operators are innocent, some are criminals hiding
in riding boda bodas and continue to risk their work.

the association general secretary advised boda boda passengers always to
identify those carrying them before boarding In order to reduce on the risk of
losing their properties or even being hurt by people impersonating to be boda
bodas.

Moroto district has over 500 boda boda operators but only 315 have registered
with the association which makes it difficult to differentiate between the boda
bodas and impersonators.
