Farmers in Moroto have continued
to suffer from low harvests due prolonged droughts in the region despite efforts
injected in planting, weeding and crop maintenance.
Jack Mafabi,
a vegetable farmer and trader says he plants crops every rainy season, only to
be dis appointed by the drought that comes just after the weeding process.
He says this
trend calls for irrigation which is expensive to sustain, since water sources are
far from the gardens, something that forces some farmers to abandon their
gardens.
On his side,
John Baptist Lokii -Matheniko MP says Karamoja can no longer survive on rain
fed agriculture since the seasons have been changing over time.
Lokii anticipates
hunger outbreak in the district given poor harvests in the last 3 years, all
due to climate change effects.
