Moroto Municipality council has today held an extra-ordinary session
following the death of one of their councilors Anna Mary Nakoru.
The meeting was held at the Moroto district chamber hall aimed at
hailing the work done by the fallen councilor in the last two years of service.
A motion to pay respect for the fallen Nakoru was moved by Hellen
Kiyai woman councilor – Boma North and seconded by Mary Akwii the councilor
representing the elderly persons.
Presiding over the session, Moroto Municipality speaker Abdullah
Twaha expressed his sorrow at the death of Nakoru and he extended his deepest
sympathy to the family of the deceased.
Twaha told the fully packed hall that Nakoru- an expectant mother
was speared to death alongside her biological mother while working in the
garden at Katanga village on April 27, 2023.
He described the attack as wicked to the innocent persons who were
busy in the garden fending for their family and wondered how the assailant
brutally murdered the mother and her daughter by a spear saying this was
unacceptable.
The speaker said the death has caused a great loss to the people of
Moroto and the families at large.
On the other hand, Mary Nachap- the deputy mayor Moroto
Municipality described the deceased as an Iron lady, adding that she was bent towards
developing the municipality.
She says during the 2021 general elections, Nakoru stood in the
docket of men and was able to defeat them as a directly elected person.
On behalf of the late, Nachap begged the public to forgive Nakoru
for any wrongdoings.
Speaking at the farewell of Nakoru, the Deputy Speaker Moroto
Municipality Eveline Longok, said they have lost a colleague who was an asset
to the council and she appealed to the family of Moses Lorika, the husband to
be firm.
The late will be laid to rest on Friday [May 5,
2023] at their ancestral home in Namalu Sub County, Nakapiripirit district.
