The NRM secretary general,
Richard Todwong, has urged the people of Karamoja to embrace a shared
responsibility among leaders and citizens in building a peaceful and prosperous
society.
Speaking at
a belated Liberation Day celebrations in Napak District on Monday, Todwong said
government’s role is to provide peace, security, and infrastructure, but that
is it cardinal upon individuals to take charge of own households.
Todwong
argues that the Karimojong are hard-working people who should maximise that
virtue by reducing on alcohol consumption and shift the best of their energies
on economic activities that positively impact their lives.
He also
urged the community to utilize existing roads for transporting goods and
services, adding that community elders should make more effort to lead the
youth in the right direction.
On the other
hand, Napak District Woman MP, urged the UPDF to engage in concerted efforts to
bring about lasting peace which will foster Karamoja’s economic liberation.
On a lighter
note, Nakut noted that she still has the ambition and energy to serve her
people, adding that it is not yet time to call it quits from parliament since
it is her first term in the house.
The day was
commemorated in Lorengechora town council and it attracted several dignitaries
including NRM chairmen from neighbouring districts, the deputy division
commander Brig.Gen.Felix Busizoori and other security chiefs and members of the
