Nabilatuk district authorities are contemplating
on the next course of action following delayed results of samples taken from
the suspected anthrax case by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry and
Fisheries.
On 10th August 2024, Local residents of
Nachegiritolim notified the district leadership of a bull that died with
similar signs and symptoms of anthrax.
This prompted the district veterinary team to swing into
action and take samples that were delivered to MAAIF laboratories for analysis
in order to guide the district on the next steps to be taken.
Paul Lokol, Nabilatuk district chairperson however says the
results of the taken samples have delayed, leaving the district in suspense.
He says following the anthrax scare, the district security
team had earlier held a meeting and proposed the closure of all cattle markets
to contain the spread of the disease across the district and to other
districts.
On a positive note, however, Lokol says there has been no
new case of animal death with such registered symptoms across the district
adding that they have deployed both the local populace and extension workers to
be on the watch.
