Nabilatuk district
chairperson Paul Lokol has revealed that the level of sanitation in his
district is progressively worsening, with the numbers of household using
latrines falling from 65 percent to 40 percent.
According to
Lokol, the district leaders in a bid to improve latrine usage and coverage in
the district had mobilized communities on the proper use and importance of
latrines which was greatly embraced, with the percentage of latrines coverage
increasing from 14 percent in 2021 to 65 percent in 2023.
However,
Lokol says the current health indicator shows the use of latrines is standing
at 40 percent, something he attributes to insecurity and famine among others
which forced locals to migrate abandoning their latrines.
He expressed
fears that the district is at a risk of being hit by diseases like Cholera,
dysentery and diarrhea among other fecal related diseases.
