Sub counties in Nabilatuk have finalized the identification process
of their area peace committee members and have submitted them to the district
authorities for vetting.
This follows
an earlier communication by the district over expiry of the current peace
committee member’s term in office, prompting a call for selection of new
members.
Nabilatuk
district chairperson Paul Lokol says they received names of five area peace
committee members from each of the 5 sub counties and the town council.
According to
Lokol they will constitute a vetting committee that will scrutinize the
capability of the candidates to ensure they are credible and trust worthy
individuals with integrity to serve in the positions of peace committee
members.
The area
peace committee members are responsible for helping to keep foot on the ground
as vigilantes, fostering peace in their communities and aide tracking of stolen
animals alongside the UPDF.
Lokol noted that
a team is on the ground to dig out information about the suggested members.
A peace
committee member Adiaka Paul Amut was recently detained at Lolachat barracks
over the escalations of raids between Napak and Nabilatuk district with
suspicions that he was behind the raids.
