The national research
institute Zardi in Nabilatuk district has received a total of 500 million
shillings to implement seed production as one of the measures to mitigate
hunger in Karamoja.
The funding
from government has also been directed to Namalu government prison farm, which
will also receive a sum of 500 million shillings.
Nabuin Zardi
will use the funds to produce seeds to support 30,000 farmers in the sub-region
while Namalu prison will produce food to aid in curbing hunger.
The two
ministers for Karamoja affairs Mary Goretti Kitutu and her junior Agnes Nandutu
on Friday visited the areas to monitor the implementation of the projects.
While
addressing residents, the ministers commended Nabuin Zardi and Namalu prison
farm for the job well done and pledged more funding for the two institutions.
Nandutu and
Kitutu were joined by the deputy division commander for third division
Brig.Gen.Felix Busizoori, ASTU commandant, Senior Commissioner of police Elias
Kasirabo, the Mt.Moroto deputy RPC SSP Ahmed Madiri and others.
