Residents of Namalu town
council in Nakapiripirit district today staged a demonstration to drive out of
the area the Pokot community of Amudat.
The
residents took to the move on grounds that the Pokot have continuously raided
their animals and killed the Pian.
The angry
residents also claim that the Pokot have not been disarmed by security forces
and are using their guns to terrorise the Pian and yet they were convinced by
their elders to embrace disarmament.
However, the
police spokesperson for Karamoja Mike Longole says the force responded swiftly
and dismantled an illegal roadblock which was mounted by the residents.
Longole
warned that police will not condone any demonstrations towing tribal lines and hatred,
and he urged the Karimojong to live harmoniously as one people.
