Napak district woman MP Faith Nakut has called on government to
revise its policy of abolishing the boarding section in UPE and USE schools.
Speaking in
parliament yesterday, Nakut argued that the policy is detrimental and affects
access to education especially to learners who walk long distances to schools
across the country.
She pointed
out examples in Karamoja, where some schools are far away from communities yet
learners can easily be absorbed in the boarding section to avoid the distances.
The legislator
also argues that the boarding section can help in taming children particularly
those from Karamoja from being lured and trafficked into the streets of Kampala
and other towns in the country.
Nakut prayed
to government to come up with strong policies and measures that protect
children and their well-being.
