Health Officials at Kanawat Health center 3 in Kotido municipality
are managing a 10-year-old patient from Toror hills in Panyangara who
registered MPOX like symptoms.
According to
the medical history, the boy was admitted at the health facility on the 31st
August 2024 with complaints of Vesicular rashes associated with mild itching
which he developed a day after eating meat of a goat that had died under
unclear circumstances.

-Kotido district health educator has confirmed the development,saying the boy
is currently isolated at Kanawat Health center where he is receiving medical
treatment as they organize to take the samples to Uganda Viral Research
Institute for analysis.

Achuma has called
for calm and vigilance from the general public urging them to report cases of
persons who present similar symptoms to their area VHT members or the nearest
health facility for proper management.
He also
urged the public to desist from eating game meat saying the disease is widely
associated with consumption of wild game meat.

M POX is a
viral infection which can spread between people, mainly through close contact
and occasionally from the environment to people via surfaces that have been
touched by infected persons.
It presents
with common symptoms of rash, fever, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, back
pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes among others.
