Police in Nabilatuk district have launched a manhunt for two suspects who have reported escaped from lawful custody.

The suspects have been identified as 23 year old Philip Ichumar, a resident of Lotede village-accused of stealing cattle while Owalinga Lopul, a resident of Napangoe village is a suspect of aggravated defilement.

According to the police spokesperson for Karamoja, Mike Longole, the duo escaped at around 6pm last evening during a heavy downpour in the district.

Longole intimated that the suspects allegedly removed one of the iron sheets from the cell roof at the CPS and vanished.

A case of escape from lawful custody has been registered against them, while the officer on duty has been charged with negligence.

The police have called on members of the community to provide them with relevant information that can lead to the arrest of the escapees.

Just a fortnight ago, a suspect of aggravated defilement escaped from custody at Moroto central police station, leading to arrest of four officers who were on duty.
