Police in Moroto today afternoon recovered its diverted, food found
hidden in one of the stores at Moroto central market.
This has prompted the force to launch an in-depth inquiry in to the
alleged diversion of food from unknown destination yet to be established.
According to sources at the central market, 60 bags of posho and 40
bags of beans were supposed to be repackaged and distributed through retail
marketing.
However, the white bags labeled Uganda Police Force in black were
recovered timely by whistle blowers.
Meanwhile, police sources have indicated that the probe has to
continue, describing it as an act of sabotage given the conditions of survival
in Karamoja.
So far six suspects including off loaders have been arrested in
connection with diverting food for its starving men in sub region.
The chairman market vendors Samuel Wambede when contacted denied
knowledge of the food.
Police spokesperson for Karamoja sub-region IP Mike Longole could
not be reached for a comment as he did not respond to our call.
