President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Karamoja next week to
launch government internet connection in the sub-region, before the project is
spread all over the country.
This
development was confirmed by the minister for information and national guidance,
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.
Dr.
Baryomunsi expressed optimism that the project will help cause development in
the region.
Meanwhile, a
section of MPs from Karamoja have welcomed the government’s move to launch the
internet fibre starting with Karamoja.
They say
this will improve communication as well as promote infrastructure development.
Napak
district woman MP Faith Nakut says the project will help attract tourists and
boost tourism in Karamoja and sell the region to the rest of the world.
Nakut
however noted that majority of the local people will not benefit from the
project since they do not own smart phones.
