About 26 pupils of Kalas primary school in
Amudat district were on Wednesday rush to the district hospital after consuming
cookies suspected to contain poison.
The police spokesperson for Karamoja, Mike Longole confirmed the incident,
saying the children developed stomach, throat and heart pains, after consuming
cookies they found wrapped in a polythene bag inside one of the classrooms.
According to Longole, police swung into action and evacuated the affected
pupils to Amudat hospital, after receiving the devastating information.
He says however that 22 of the pupils have been discharged while four of
them are still being monitored in the hospital by medical personnel.
Longole says a general inquiry file has been opened and he has called
upon members of the public to volunteer information regarding the matter.
