The regional police
commander for Mt.Moroto, ACP Francis Chemusto has called on residents to
embrace education as a tool to fight hunger and cattle rustling.
ACP Chemusto
was addressing residents during a community policing meeting held at Natapar
Arengan village in Nabilatuk sub-county, Nabilatuk district.
He argues
that if all school going age children are taken to school, cattle rustling will
completely be eradicated since grown up enlightened youths would not accept to
go for raids.
The RPC
wondered why some parents are using children as shephards instead of sending
them to school to enjoy the free education being provided by government.
He warned
that such parents who have ignored the aspect of education will remain in
viscious cycle of poverty.
On the other
hand, community members expressed concern on the overwhelming number of
redundant youths in the area, who they say have become boda boda riders while
other have turned to cattle rustling.
The urged
government to consider the idea of home guards in villages to curb issues of
insecurity in their area.
