Richard Otim pursing a diploma in Primary Education has won the
Moroto teacher training institute first guild presidency.
According to results declared by the institute electoral commission
chairman Emmanuel Omongo on Friday Afternoon, Otim, a teacher at Kasimeri Ps in
Moroto garnered 74 votes of the total 105 cast representing 70.1 percent.
His rivals Dismas Cheptai got 29 votes representing 27. 6 percent,
while Simon Orisa trailed with 01 vote representing 1.0 percent.
In the docket of the vice president, Victoria Cheptoris pursuing a
diploma in early childhood education commanded 68 votes, a percentage of 64.8 forcing
her contender Nasta Chekwemboi to walk away with a paltry 37 votes- a representation
of 32.9 percent.
Cheptoris is a teacher at Arokwo Parents Primary School in Kapchorwa
district.
Others are Raymond Eyabu, a teacher at Achukudu community school in
Napak district got 67 votes to become the guild general secretary and Daniel
Akungur a teacher at Eagles Nest Ps in Moroto carried away 64 votes to be the
cabinet speaker.
Omongo congratulated the team for taking up the mantle to run the
institute besides the administration saying the students’ body has trusted them
to ensure adequate representation.
In an interview with Ateker Moroto FM, after being declared the
duly elected guild President Otim pledged to ensure the student body speaks in
unison.
He also promised adequate representation in their term of office
which runs from 2023-2024.
So far, the Moroto teacher training institute, an affiliate of Kyambogo
University has an enrolment of 290 students pursuing diplomas in Primary Education
and Early Childhood Education.
The institute that kicked off in April 2023 has taken over the
former Moroto core PTC buildings.
