Rise in accidents along Nabilatuk-Nakapiripirit road blamed on the uncompleted road work.

The current upsurge in accident cases registered along Nabilatuk -Nakapiripirit road has been faulted on the uncompleted works by the contractor.

Paul Lokol the Nabilatuk LC 5 chairperson says the contracted company Kibrut has heaped murrum along the road and since the onset of rain in the region, travelers and traders have continued to suffer on the road as vehicles get stuck for days, something which he says is impacting on the prices of food and other commodities in the district.

According to Lokol, the district is now registering 5 accident episodes on a daily basis with about 2 fatal ones that require referrals to Moroto or Mbale regional hospitals.

He says this has become a burden to the district leaders because every time a fatal accident occurs, members of public call for their interventions in terms of referring the accident victims.

Lokol further reveals that as the district, they have engaged the said contractor and also pleaded with UNRA authorities to intervene but all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears, adding that apart from the uncompleted works the state of the road is also in a sorry state.

Works on the said road stretching 47 kilometers was to be completed by 2021, with a contract worth 5.7 billion shillings awarded to the contractor.

Lokol has however appealed to the public to cautiously use the road so as to avert further accidents.
