Kotido deputy RDC John Magyezi Lukooki has said security officials
in the district are on high alert following reports of Karacunas rearming
themselves.
Magyezi
without divulging details said they have received intelligence reports about
some elements who have started rearming themselves from the neighboring
countries of South Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia with firearms.
According to
Magyezi, the intelligence reports also indicate that those rearming are majorly
Karacunas frustrated by government delays in honoring its pledges to those who
voluntarily handed over their illegal weapons.
He says the rearming
by wrong elements has caused a rise in petty thefts in some sub counties over
the past few weeks where locals are robbed of their cash and valuables, while
some are injured.
Magyezi says
top security officials are devising means to weed out the wrong elements and
also deploy patrols in the nights to secure the area.
