A decade long most wanted self-styled warrior Commander has surrendered under the open- ended presidential amnesty in Karamoja.

He has been identified as 35 year- old Igira Museveni at Dodoth-Jie mobilization meeting held at Losilang Catholic Parish ground in Kotido municipality. He hails from Amutodo village, Katap parish in Losilang ward, Kotido municipality.

Igira turned himself at the dialogue to the surprise of the grieved community with calls for confession and forgiveness on July 16, 2023.

He said that for a couple of years he had been active with his outfit raiding animals in Kotido and Moroto districts among other areas but all that had come to an end.

Speaking in the local dialect, Igira further said he was impressed by the mass amnesty, being handled by the forces.

However, it should be noted that for the past years scores of rustlers have surrendered their guns to the army, but to their panic return to rustling again.

Presiding over the event, the resident district commissioner Kotido Ambrose Onoria, urged commanders of splinter groups in the jungles to surrender arms to the government.

He begged them to sue the opportunity to return home and engage in productive income generating activities.

He further said the government has set out projects like the parish development model among others that should be embraced by the youths to improve lives in Karamoja and the entire country.

Meanwhile, illegal weapon handlers in Karamoja have handed over 43 rifles, illegally owned in the last four weeks under the presidential gun pardon- a presidential initiative for peace in the sub region.

Under the amnesty, AK47 wielding youths can surrender forbidden weapons to their local leaders, police or army detachments without punishment.

Relatedly, Apei Lorot also took the advantage of the amnesty to hand over his family gun at the function saying he was fed with keeping the weapon.

The three-day meeting was attended by several government officials, internal security officers, elders and religious leaders.

The Dodoth and the Jie agreed to embrace the amnesty and arrest those who do not handover their guns.
