A senior two student of
Nadunget senior secondary school in Moroto district has reportedly been gunned
down by joint security forces in a foiled cattle raid in Nabilatuk district.
This
development was revealed by John Lokol -Nabilatuk district chairperson who is
currently undergoing a three weeks leader’s refresher training along with other
leaders from Karamoja sub-region in Kyankwanzi.
Lokol says
preliminary reports he has received indicate that for the last 3 days, the
district has been hit by violent cattle raids but luckily, the joint security
forces have recovered all the looted livestock and also arrested one of the
raiders from Arengkeju and they have as well as gunned down the said student of
Nadunget Senior secondary School.

Lokol has
tasked leaders at the grassroots to continue sensitization of the youth against
involving in raids despite the numerous challenges affecting their livelihoods.
The district
boss noted that raids are one of the factors leading to poor livelihood and
wellbeing of the youth.

On the other
hand however, the head teacher Nadunget SS-Albert Machecho says he has not
received any information regarding the shooting of the said student.
Karamoja
regional police spokesperson, Mike Longole has confirmed that a raider was shot
and another arrested but did not divulge details whether the deceased was a
student.
While
speaking with our news desk, the third division spokesperson Moses Amuya
identified the arrested raider as Joseph Lokol, a resident of Acerer in Loputuk
sub-county, Moroto district.
However,
Amuya could not identify nor confirm whether the raider put out of action is a
student of Nadunget SS.
