Police say they have
registered a success in prosecuting assailants gunning down individuals in
Karamoja.
Police have
revealed that joint security forces have arrested a number of suspects behind
the killings of local leaders in Karamoja.
Police
spokesperson for Karamoja Mike Longole made the revelation following the recent
killing of Lokaino Mario Lotyang the LC 3 chairperson of Kotido Sub County in
Lokitelaebu town council, Kotido district.
The gruesome
murder of Lokaino brings the number of LC 3 chairpersons killed in cold blood
in the sub-region to five.
In April
2022, the vice chairperson of Napumpum Sub- County Longole Aped was shot dead
as he was allegedly leading a team of armed warriors to an aborted raid cattle.
After one
month, his boss Paul Lowok was also shot dead by armed warriors and in July,
the warriors shot dead Daniel Akom, the speaker of the Kapeta sub-county.
In July
2023, the warriors also shot dead Moses Lomuria, the LC3 chairperson of
Longaroe sub-county, and three security officers.
According to
Longole, police have arrested several suspects behind these shootings and
handed them over to the UPDF 3rd Division for arraignment before the
military court martial.

so that the perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served.
