Security personnel in
Karamoja have disclosed that some districts in South Karamoja have not fully
embraced the presidential amnesty of voluntary handover of illegal fire arms.
Police
spokesperson for Karamoja, IP Mike Longole has named the districts as Moroto,
Amudat, Napak and Nakapiripirit, saying these districts have continued to
register isolated cases of cattle raids especially between the Pokot and Pian.
Longole
cited the theft of 94 goats and sheep in Namoni Aloris village, Kosike
sub-county in Nabilatuk district on Tuesday night.
Longole says
this prompted security forces to conduct an operation in Alakas and Nakabaat,
leading to recovery of three guns.
According to
the police spokesperson, the guns were recovered in Nakabaat village, Rupa
sub-county in Moroto district.
He says
security will continue conducting operations in troublesome areas to ensure
equitable peace is enjoyed all over Karamoja.
On the other
hand however, Longole commended the districts in Northern Karamoja for
embracing the presidential amnesty and thereby voluntarily returning guns to
the authorities.
